A Shorthand for Notation, for Directors & Singers

There is little space in a vocal score for writing in blocking. A system of shorthand is therefore necessary. In notating action, the character to whom the instruction applies is identified in upper case letters, e.g. LEP for Leporello. Other characters mentioned are identified also by three letters, but with only the first in upper case, e.g. DON go to Lep.
